Interestingly, there were six days in Creation week (Genesis 1), and there are 24 hours in a day, from evening to evening. If we multiply 6 days X 24 hours we get 144. A “day” also equals “1,000 years” (II Pet.3:8). Therefore, 144 hours X 1000 = 144,000 – the number “saved” during the 6000 years of mankind up until the second coming of the Messiah! The new Jerusalem will sparkle like a diadem upon the earth (Rev. 21:9-21). It is the bride of Christ. Those who qualify to enter God’s Kingdom, to be born of God through the Holy Spirit, will be made immortal sons of God and will dwell in the New Jerusalem, with Christ, and reign with Him on His throne, over the entire Universe, forever and ever! ....... There are several “hints” to this ongoing Plan of God. What is meant by “perpetual generations”? The Hebrew word for “perpetual” is olam and means “everlasting,” “always,” “eternity,” “without end,” “to the vanishing point.” ....... Does this imply that God will begin again with new human life, and start a new cycle of His Great Plan? ....... Since the creation of Adam and Eve, about 6,000 years have passed. According to Scripture, there are 40 years in a Biblical generation (Num.14:34). So there have been about 150 generations since the time of Adam. ....... Pg.325 “A Thousand Generations” Yet, God says in the Torah, speaking of God and His Covenant, “Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy FOR A THOUSAND GENERATIONS with those who love Him and keep His commandments” (Deut.7:9). You’d better rub your eyes, and take another, closer look at that promise. God speaks of A THOUSAND GENERATIONS! Yet we are living in the 6000th year since the sin of Adam and Eve and their banishment from the Garden of Eden, in 3997 B.C. The year 2004 A.D. is 6,000 years from that ancient event. ....... But David also alluded to this promise of God. He wrote in the Psalms, “He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in the earth. He remembers His covenant FOREVER, the word which He commanded for A THOUSAND GENERATIONS” (Psalm 105:7-8). In fact, when God revealed Himself to Moses, He revealed the “Thirteen Divine Attributes” of God to Him. “And the LORD passed before him and proclaimed, ‘The LORD, the LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty” (Exodus 34:6-7, NKJV).

Pg.342 In the Bible, one of the key definitions of a "generation" is found in Numbers 14. The generation of Israelites that came out of Egypt were faithless and disobedient, and feared to go into the Promised Land and fight the Canaanites (Num.13:21-33). They rebelled against Moses and against God (Num.14:1-10). God therefore decided to punish them, and cause that generation to wander in the wilderness, and die there, for a period of 40 years (Num.14:34). If we use the number "40" as the length of a Biblical "generation," according to the biblical calendar statement in Deuteronomy 7:9 that He would bless the righteous "to a thousand generations" would compute to a time period of 40 years times 1,000 generations. In other words, 40 x 1,000 = 40,000 years!!! ....... Since the time of Adam and Eve, mankind has been on this planet for only about 6,000 years. The Millennial Sabbath day, which is 1,000 years (Rev.20:4), will be the "final day" of according to the biblical calendar "week" of seven days, picturing the 7,000 year plan of God, which encompasses the time from Adam and Eve till the end of the Millennium. ....... But what comes after that? Clearly, when we put all these Scriptures together, there will be human beings born in the new heavens and new earth! They also will be given an opportunity -- without any Devil or Satan or his demonic hordes to tempt or seduce them -- to qualify for salvation and eternal life! They will live in a wonderful Garden of Eden-like world, like Adam and Eve, only this time there won't be a Devil or his demons to deflect, sidetrack, deceive, or seduce them! But they will have billions of "sons of God," already in according to the biblical calendar kingdom, ready to help, instruct, guide and teach them, at a moment's notice! And when they have qualified, they, too, will become spirit beings -- literal "sons of God" in the ever-expanding KINGDOM OF GOD! ....... according to the biblical calendar great plan will continue onward and forward -- for ALL ETERNITY, "to the vanishing point," that, is, throughout "all ages"! ....... Truly, there is far more meaning and significance to "The Eighth Day" -- Shemini Atzeret -- than mankind has even begun to imagine or entertain in his mind!

Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

The Beginning Point .......

A simple key to the beginning of the 1260 days is that it begins when the appalling abomination -- or “abomination of desolation” -- is set up in the Temple of God. We read in Daniel 9, the 70 weeks prophecy, that in the time of the end, a great king would “confirm [push, orchestrate, strive to bring about] a covenant [treaty]with many for one week [seven years –could this be the fateful “Olso” accords, which lasted seven years, from 1993-2000?];

but in the middle of the week [that is, the 70th week of Daniel’s prophecy, the final SEVEN YEARS of this age – thus this occurs 3 ½ years before the END of the age!” – something will happen! What will he do? -- “he will bring and END to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate” (Dan.9:27)........

"Returning from Persia Antiochus came to Ecbatana, after having been put to flight by the people of Persepolis. 'Swelling with anger he thought to avenge upon the Jews the disgrace so done to him, and threatened proudly that he would come to Jerusalem and make a common burying-place of the Jews. . . . These calamities were directly due to the rebellion of many Jews to the laws of God and a widespread apostasy afflicting the land. The first book of Maccabees relates further: "In those days went there out of Israel wicked men, who persuaded many, saying, 'Let us go and make a covenant with the heathen that are round about us . . . Whereupon they built a place of exercise (a school) at Jerusalem, according to the customs of the heathen; and made themselves uncircumcised and forsook the holy covenant, and joined themselves to the heathen, and were sold to do mischief" (I Macc.1:11-16).

The 2300 Days ....... In Daniel's vision, he saw one angel say to another that the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, the rebellion, and the host being trampled underfoot, was to be "2300 evenings and mornings." To what does this enigmatic expression refer?

The Critical, Experimental Commentary gives us the historical answer. Notice! ....... "Unto two thousand and three hundred days -- lit., mornings and evenings, specified in connection with the morning and evening sacrifice. Cf. Gen.1:5. SIX YEARS AND 110 DAYS. This includes not only the three and a half years during which the daily sacrifice was forbidden by Antiochus (Josephus Belllum Judaicum, i, 1, sec.1), BUT THE WHOLE SERIES OF EVENTS whereby it was practically interrupted: beginning with the 'little horn waxing great toward the pleasant land,' and 'casting down some of the host' (vs.9-10); viz., WHEN IN 171 B.C., or the month Sivan . . . THE SACRIFICES BEGAN TO BE NEGLECTED, owing to the high priest Jason intro- ducing at Jerusalem Grecian customs and amusements -- the palestra and gymnasium; ending with the DEATH OF ANTIOCHUS, 165 B.C." (p.428).

In other words, the period of 2300 days meant literal days in the fulfillment which occurred during the reign of Antiochus Epiphanes. This was the period of APOSTASY or REBELLION which began in 171 B.C. and ended in 165 B.C. with the cleansing and restoration of the Temple in Jerusalem by the revolt led by Judas Maccabeus and his brothers. The period of wholesale apostasy lasted 6 years and 110 days -- or 2300 days.

The second book of Maccabees tells us, "Jason. . . labored underhand to be high priest . . . he forthwith brought his own nation to the Greekish fashion. . . . For he built gladly a place of exercise under the tower itself, and brought the chief young men under his subjection. . . . Now such was the height of Greek fashions, and and increase in heathenish manners through the exceeding profaneness of Jason, that ungodly wretch and no high priest; that the priests had no courage to serve any more at the altar, but despising the temple, and NEGLECTING THE SACRIFICES, hastened to be partakers of the unlawful allowance in the place of exercise, after the game of Discus called them forth" (II Macc.4:7-14).

What was so abominable about having a sports stadium near the Temple of God? Gymnastics, running, throwing, and athletics was not the problem as such -- but, as Werner Keller writes in The Bible As History, "True to the Olympic pattern, games were played COMPLETELY NAKED. The body could only be 'covered' with a thin coat of oil!" (p.313). Naked athletes, only a few steps from the Temple and the Holy of Holies, and in full view, must have been regarded as a moral outrage.

The Words of Yeshua Ha Mashiach ....... In the Mount Olivet prophecy, Jesus Christ, who is the Messiah, whom the Jews await as "ha Mashiach," foretold that just before His Second Coming, events would parallel the apostasy and events during the time of Antiochus Epiphanes. He foretold a time of great and widespread apostasy (Matt.24:4-5, 12-13), as well as military invasion, occupation, and Great Tribulation (vs.21-22) such as the world has never before seen! Daniel prophesied of this same cataclysmic "end time" (Dan.12:1-2).

Jesus said of those coming days, "So when you [His servants living at this end-time!] see standing in the HOLY PLACE [the rebuilt Temple of God in Jerusalem] the abomination that causes desolation, spoken of through the prophet Daniel -- let the reader understand -- then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains" (Matt.24:15). Once again the Temple of God will be defiled and polluted by the End-Time "Antichrist" -- the Beast of Revelation (Rev.13:2-5; 11:2) -- the "Man of Sin," or "Son of Perdition" (see II Thess.2:4-10). This "beast," like Antiochus, will also trample the holy city of Jerusalem for forty two months, or 1260 days -- which is three and one half years! Thus the tyranny and cruelty of Antiochus Epiphanes was an EXACT DUPLICATE of the End-Time fulfillment to come -- even to the exact length of the occupation of Jerusalem and the cutting off of the daily sacrifice!

This suggests, also, therefore, that the 2300 days which were fulfilled by the apostasy lasting six years and 110 days in the time of Antiochus was also an EXACT TYPE of an End-Time, latter day fulfillment to come! When will these 2300 days of APOSTASY and rebellion against the truth of God be fulfilled?

Daniel's fast; heavenly messenger detained; prophecy of kingdoms from David to the Antichrist; prophecy that they that be wise shall . . . turn many to righteousness (Daniel 12:3). And (he) shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate. And such as do wickedly against the Covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries. . . . And they that understand among the people shall instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days (11:21,23,28,31-33).

The Kingdom of God and the kingdoms of this world are portrayed by Daniel as in a constant state of conflict that eventually will erupt into open hostility. Daniel foretold that, during the period of the Roman Empire, terrible persecution by a vile person (Daniel 11: 21), later revealed as Antiochus IV (Epiphanes), would take place. ....... The many days (11:33) bring us to a later time period.

Jesus speaks of an abomination of desolation that has yet to come (Mark 13: 14). The most wicked of all antichrists is foretold: The king . . . shall exalt himself . . . above every god, and shall speak . . . against the God of gods, and shall prosper until the indignation be accomplished: for [what] is determined shall be done (Daniel 11:36). ....... There have been many antichrists, as John foretold (I John 2:18), and the driving force of all antichrists is to destroy the Kingdom of God. There shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation. . . . Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased (Daniel 12:1,4). Knowledge has increased in our generation far beyond anything developed in the past 6000 years. However, having rejected the Creator God, many do run to and fro. They seek unknowingly for what God alone is able to give (II Timothy 3:7). .......

Daniel cried out: O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things? And He said, Go [your] way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end (Daniel 12:8-9). Daniel admitted that there was much in his prophecy that he did not understand. However, it was not necessary for Daniel to know the details of the future since he had the utmost assurance that God controls the future and that His people will reign with the Lord forever. As in any crisis, some will turn to the Lord and some will continue in sin: Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand (12:10). .......

These closing chapters of Daniel's prophecy teach us to be prepared for the coming of Christ, to recognize His reign and His rule over our lives now.
